I felt it a privilege to be in an audience of Rohan devotees at the last of the Rohan Harrogate Lectures for 2011 on the future of the company. With no discernable Rohan product on my person I sat sleepishly surrounded by long established converts to this powerful brand in outdoor equipment, all resplendent in Rohan gear.

The friendly atmosphere of the venue, the Harrogate staff, the mince pies and Colin Fisher himself provided a setting for an insight into the history of Rohan, from the start with Sarah Howcroft and her husband, through financial pain, to a rediscovery of the original ethics behind the creation of the company that has made Rohan what it is today.

And then the future...

Happy with its store coverage in the UK, Rohan are now looking in three different geographical directions to expand, targeting Germany, Japan and the USA.

They are also looking at ways to give the company back to its employees, devoted followers and investors in some shape or form that will protect the brand and its values for the future. 

As an aside we had an interesting comment from a Jack Wolfskin representative on Rohan in Germany. “Brand loyality to Jack Wolfskin in Germany is far too strong for Rohan to compete against”

It will be interesting to see if they are right!
