Our aim is to create an overview of walking in Europe with information on long distance walking routes within and passing through each and eventually every European country.

As we build we will include information on accommodation for walkers, walking festivals, charity walks, outdoor equipment, outdoor equipment reviews, details of new products, where to buy outdoor gear on our retailers page, guide to maps and books for walkers, walking news and walking holidays.

If you have information on long distance walking routes in your area that you feel would be helpful to our readers please do not hesitate to contact us

Our walking adventures so far have allowed us to revisit sections of the Pennine Way, Wainwright's Coast to Coast, the GR5, the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela and the Camino de Robert Louis Stephenson from Le Puy en Velay

We offer free listings on our Walking Festivals, Charity Walks and Where to Stay pages, the only obligation is a link back to us

Walking Books Lakeland Pack 2

The 25 classic walks arrived on my desk in a glossy, robust box with tempting images of the adventures ahead.

The rear of the box lists the series 25 durable, weather-proof walking cards and their grades from Easy (7), through Moderate (12) and Difficult  (2) to Strenuous (3)

There is a clear indication of the retail price at £14.95 together with other packs available in the series but no reference to the useful booklet or waterproof map case that also accompanies the route cards. The waterproof map case is initially folded within the box.

Don't try and straighten it by inserting a card as it just bends the card!

route card and holder

Each route card is packed with information including extracts from the Ordnance Survey 1:25 000 Leisure Maps for the area, grade, distance, height gain & profile, approx time to walk, terrain / surface (which we like a lot!) and very good route description.

We'll be doing a field test on Route 07 Dalemain and Dacre before the end of Jan 2012 and let you know how we get on...
