berghaus freeflow 20 day sack review
The return of the Berghaus Freeflow 20 rucksack, its pictures and its review now it's back from Madeira.
I had been looking for a day sac to take on holiday abroad as my previous bags caused my back to sweat in hot weather. I owned a Berghaus 30L Freeflow but this was too big for a day bag so I was very pleased to discover that a 20L version of the Freeflow was available.
The material and manufacture are of excellent quality and the breathable shoulder straps are a welcome edition to the design of the bag. The 20L capacity is adequate for the average day out and will easily cope with waterproof jacket, drinks (in side pockets or hydration sac facility within bag) food, camera etc. My first use of the bag was in Madeira where, although the weather was around 23C during the day, it can be very changeable especially in the mountainous region and so adequate clothing for these conditions are essential. I managed to pack two waterproof jackets and trousers, camera, torch, drinks, sun tan, first aid kit and some food into the main compartment, a handy zipped pocket inside the bag was used for keys and money and mobile phone. A front access pocket, although small, was large enough for my Madeira walking guide and other maps.
Although the bag was full to capacity it was effortless to carry and the adjustable chest straps kept the shoulder straps from moving and at a constant distance apart. The freeflow design makes minimal contact with the back and, where contact does occur, the materials used prevent sweating. On one occasion the weather did deteriorate and I had to use the bags rain cover which is kept in a zipped compartment at the base of the bag. The rain was very heavy, however, the rain cover worked very well and kept the contents of the bag dry.
To gain access to the bag I found it more convenient to lay flat as when unzipping the main compartment the bag tends to fold in half making access to all areas easy.
To sum up I am extremely satisfied with the Berghaus 20L Freeflow bag its quality and performance were outstanding and I didn't have a sweaty back all week, highly recommended.
