Walking Festivals where they are, when they are
Third Crickhowell Walking Festival 27th February - 7th March 2010 This year’s festival promises to be even bigger and better than in 2009, with more Walks and Events. Our walks cover the full range – from tough all day treks across the mountains and moors to easy low level strolls. There are many new walks in the programme as well as some old favourites. Numbers will be limited on all walks, so you will not be in a crowd – but please book your places early. Read the descriptions carefully and, if in doubt, please ask. We have expanded our Events Programme, which is designed to be complementary to the Walks Programme. The evenings feature a range of entertainments from talks through fi lms to music, culminating, as usual, in our popular Twmpath on the last Saturday. We also have Doug Scott on Friday 5th March to talk about his life in mountaineering. Book early for both!
We are raising funds this year for Help For Heroes, the charity that supports members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country, and we have a real challenge in Walk 1 led by the RAF for those of you willing to raise some money and walk 20+ miles! All we need now is for a week of fine weather so that we can enjoy the area at its best. The Chiltern Society is delighted to announce The Chiltern Way Walking Festival April – October 2010 This Walking Festival celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Chiltern Way. It offers a wide range of walks to suit all ages and abilities, and aims to encourage more people to walk the Chiltern Way. The Chiltern Way is a circular walking route of around 200 km (125 miles) and there are now three optional extensions taking the total route to a maximum of 278 km (172 miles). It is a wandering, varied and mostly rural way stretching around the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and passing through many pretty Chiltern villages.
There are over 60 guided walks on offer during the Walking Festival, in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire. These range from shorter walks taking a couple of hours, themed walks combined with a visit to a local attraction , and day walks covering 10 -13 miles. All the walks are open to the public and they are all FREE. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the beautiful countryside of the Chilterns, and to discover the Chiltern Way! The programme is attached, and will be updated on our website, where you will also find details of the route of the Chiltern Way.
