Along the coast from Whitehaven to St Bees Head before heading inland for Ennerdale Bridge. From here comes ascents of Ennerdale Fell and Pillar Ridge before descending via Black Sail Pass to Wasdale Head.

Next it tackles Scafell Pike on route to Eskdale, Hardknott Pass and Harter Fell before dropping into the Duddon valley visiting Seathwaite and Ulpha.

Climbing out of the Duddon valley the walk goes over Thwaites Fell to the Sunkenkirk stone circles. The descent from here is to sea level as the route rejoins the coast at Haverigg before following the Cumbria Coastal Way to finish on the Duddon Estuary at Hodbarrow Point.
