Out of Oakham
the
walk will be busy because you're sharing it with the Hareward
Way and the Macmillan Way along the northern
shore of Rutland Water all the way to Whitwell (PH) at which point you leave
them both to head north. Heading north is a pre occupation of this walk!
Having crossed open fields the next stop is Exton (PH) a plesent village on the edge of the Exton Estate. North again is Greetham (PH)

Carlton Scroop down Heath Lane past the telephone transmitter and onto the heath itself. Having crossed the heath the walk joins the course of the Ermine Street Roman Road on minor roads and green lanes through Byards Leap up to Wellingore Heath where it turns left into the village of Wellingore itself and returns to the Jurassic limestone escarpment.
The route stays with the escarpment all the way to Lincoln through Navenby (PH), Boothby Graffoe, Coleby (PH), Harmston, Waddington and Bracebridge Heath.

Passing on the edge of RAF Waddington you will if the planes are flying get a spectacular up close view of them taking off or landing so it may be worth hanging around for a few minutes just in case.
The walk takes you into the centre
of Lincoln
past
the YHA and up Steep Hill to the cathederal. At this point it turns east and
having left suburbia, followed a railway line for a short distance and passed
Greetwell Hall joins the north bank of the River Witham up to a car park on
the outshirts of Fiskerton.
Turning north again and taking the farm road towards Hall Farm a tracking is taken that opens it fields that leads to the remains of Barlings Abbey near Low Barlings ......
