Thrumpton or Long Eaton take your pick for a start to this walking route along the River Trent through Nottinghamshire. I personnely would pick Thrumpton but in doing so would miss out on the Attenborough Nature Reserve and Beeston Weir.

From Thrumpton the walk stays by the southern bank of the River Trent for only a brief few hundred metres before heading over the flood plain fields to Barton in Fabis. Don't be tempted by the footpath leaving the village from the main crossroads that does go in the right direction. It's not the right path! You need to turn right at this point to the outshirts before turning left along the right path. This takes you under the escarpment that is Brandshill Wood, Rough Wood and Clifton Wood to reach the river again.
