This is the route taken by John Leland during his 16th century survey of Britain starting at Alfred's Tower near Stourhead it traverses rolling countryside to finish and connect with the Liberty Trail at Ham Hill near Stoke sub Hamdon. For a section from Alfred's Tower it is also coincident with the Macmillan Way.
