Starting from the point at which the Kennet & Avon Canal joins the Thames at Reading the walk follows the canal towpath to the River Avon near Bristol from where it utilises the Avon Walkway to the finish at Pill. The route passes through Thatcham, Hungerford, Pewsey, Devizes, Bradford on Avon, Bath and Bristol. There are links to the Thames Path at Reading, Lambourn Valley Way at Newbury, the Wessex Ridgeway at Devizes, the Macmillan Way at Bradford on Avon, the Limestone Link Path between Bradford on Avon and Bath, the Cotswold Way at Bath and the Two Rivers Way at Keynsham.
