The Northumberland Coast Path officially opened on 17-Jul-06 as part of the European North Sea Trail a 4900km coastal route around the North Sea. The Northumberian section has been developed by Northumberland County Council and the Northumberland Coast AONB who have provided waymarking and a guide to the route that is available in tourist information centres and libraries

According to the Northumberland Coast AONB the area "offers some of the finest coastal walking in the country. From sandy beaches to rocky outcrops, interspersed with dramatic castles and quaint coastal villages, it is a constantly changing landscape." We totally agree and would highly recommend this walk

seals, kittiwakes, fulmars and cormorants can all be seen on the way
