Along the ridges of the Malé Karpaty and Biele Karpaty Mountains before descending into the River Váh valley near Nové Mesto and Váhom.
It then enters the Strážovské Vrchy and Velká Fatra Mountains heading towards the Low Tatras.
The route then follows the Slovenské Rudohorie Mountains to the east Slovakian city of Košice before turning north to the Cergov Mountains and across the Dukliansky Priesmyk Pass into Poland.
